Re: vRealize Orchestrator missing from vCenter Web Client

$

Getting so much closer now! I've made more progress now that I've left the external address field blank.

Developments:

- I can now see the vco extension in the mob

- I can download the plugin via link in the mob

- Unfortunately, in the web client the vRealize Orchestrator panel is still blank.

- I tried a full remove extension, remove vcenter in VRO and then did a re-add of both the vCenter instance and the extension. Restarted web client and still nothing.

- Interestingly, I think the main panel in VRO is now a very pale shade of orange, rather than the same color as the other panels in the web client. (this could be a sign that I'm going crazy).

Much thanks DVATOV! Any other ideas?

serial adapter on Win 98

Hello!

I USB 2.0-RS232 adapters, I need to use them with Win 98 but it doesn't work. I tried for hours ;-(

I have different computers, I have a serial port on one of my computers and it works perfectly, but on the other computers I need to use adapters and I can't make them work.

Do you have a suggestion? A driver?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Virtual Machine Set to Private To 'My MAC' but gets an IP address from vmnet1

Hi there,

vmnet1 is the host-only network. It should not be accessible from outside the Mac, but it could be if your physical network happens to use the same subnet range.

This is expected behavior. We issue an IP from our built in DHCP service for host-only network vms.

You could instead just create a custom network and disable our DHCP so that your DHCP server will issue the IP.

Optimal settings on LSI 9361-8i for VSAN

$

I have the documentation on this card, and of course "enable jbod" is the main setting to allow VSAN to work; but I'm wondering if there are other settings on this specific card that work best for VSAN. Our environment is about to be 4x ESXi 6.x hosts, each with 524Gb RAM, a single 400Gb SSD Cache drive, and 3x 6Tb spinny disks (all disks are on the HCL). We'll also have a "normal" Samsung EVO ssd for the OS (we have a bunch of them laying around so I figured I'd use them for something!). We'll mirror this setup offsite, run replication and SRM for business continuity.

So: has anybody already done the hard work and found optimal settings for this card, for running VSAN in an HCI environment?

Thanks!

It's all versions prior to 8.5.2 for Fusion and 12.5.2 for Workstation Pro and Player.

First off, are you using Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition (SE)?  If I remember correctly, USB support was introduced in Win98SE.  And only USB 1.0.  So, it may be a little tougher to find an appropriate driver for the USB-to-Serial adapter.

One possibility - Does the host recognize the adapter, and have correct drivers installed for it?  If so, you should have a COM port in your host via that device.  You should be able to add a Serial port to your Win98 VM, and point the physical port to that COM port number.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for reaching out. I appreciate your input and absolutely see your point here. It is of course important to recognize those who have recently participated.

I am going to make the necessary adjustments to highlight this group.

Please check again in about an hour.

Best,
Katie Bradley

Hi,

Has anyone figured this out yet? We are facing the same issue. We have an SR open with VMware and they are currently asking us to reinstall the Inventory Services, which according to the comment by O.P. most likely will not make a difference.

Cheers,

Milos

Thanks for the information. Does that vulnerability also apply to Copy and Paste since both that and Drag and Drop are in the Isolation panel of Settings?

Re: vRealize Orchestrator missing from vCenter Web Client

In web client, do you see a single 'Getting started' page for vRO, or several pages? If the latter, it means the vRO plug-in has been successfully downloaded from vRO server and successfully deployed into web client.

When the plug-in is deployed but there is no content, it usually means there is some user permissions issue. Are you able to login to vRO workflow designed using the same username/password you used to login to vSphere web client, and then able to browse and start workflows?

If you are able to login with the same credentials to both workflow designer and web client, then I'd suggest to check web client log files for errors related to communication between web client and vRO server. The main web client log file is /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client/logs/vsphere_client_virgo.log

vCenter 6.5 appliance issues with non-internet connected systems

I thought I'd rattle this off to see if I was just screwing something up.

The vCenter server appliance will get wedged if you attempt to deploy the OVA on a non-internet connected network because of the RPM update process it launches not being able to download updates.

IP settings input during the OVA deployment process are discarded, you have to log in at the console to re-input them after the initial boot and self-setup processes are complete.

The Flash based UI cannot be accessed from Chrome if Chrome cannot connect to the internet (download failed or flash player out of date errors even if chrome and bundled flash are fully up to date).

Re: ESXi in SD card or standard hard disk

$

I've been using single SD cards and/or USB (cheap $10 ones) for ESXi installations for 7 years on dozens of hosts for critical production loads.  Being that ESXi only reads the disk on boot up and then loads and runs all operations from memory; the only time the RAID drives or SD/USB disk is written too again is when you make a change to your host configuration. From an admin experience standpoint; unless something drastically changes in the future with how ESXi operates, I'll never install ESXi on RAID drives again. Too costly and zero performance benefit and negligible redundancy gains as a host profile can easily be used to recover a failed SD Card on a fresh install.

Cheerio!

The first question is, do they have an active subscription?

If they don't have one, it you'd need to compare the price of the reinstatement plus the upgrade, compared to a new purchase.

If they have an active subscription, I think (not sure though, and you will need to verify this with VMware sales) that they are entitled for vSphere Enterprise (Advanced Edition was dropped with v5.0) free of charge. In this case they would only need to upgrade the 6 CPU licenses from Enterprise to Enterprise+ with the appropriate SnS.

I'd suggest you reach out to a VMware representive to have this checked.

Re: Upload Schedule

I agree.  Scheduling is a needed feature.  I've noticed slowing on computers when uploads occur.  So have employees... to the point of a couple asking not to use Mirage.

Simple scheduling would resolve this issue.  Upload at lunch and end of day in a CVD policy applied to Executives and some on slow WAN link.

But I've seen that VMware is slow to implement features... so I wouldn't count on it.

It's all versions prior to 8.5.2 for Fusion and 12.5.2 for Workstation Pro and Player.

Which means that we are all facing the unpleasant choice of risking the security threat or the frequent virtual machine crashes that have not yet been fixed in VMware Fusion versions 8.5.x.

I am staying with version 8.1.1 for now. For those making a similar choice (staying with version 8.1.1) who are concerned about the threat represented by this vulnerability, I would disable drag-and-drop and copy-and-paste features until the crashing bug has been fixed and new 8.5.x releases are confirmed to be stable. Just my 2 cents worth.

I'd wait to see if both methods of file transfer are affected or just Drag and Drop. And of course, there's always Shared Folders.

How to operate NSX manager, given vCenter host/user/password?

$
0
0

I'm working on an NSX related project. I'd like to operate the NSX API, given a vCenter connection (vSphere API). How can I achieve that? I believe that is possible because when I login vCenter web client by specifying vCenter host, user, password, I can see the associated NSX manager, and do operations (issued to NSX manager), without specifying NSX manager address and credential.

My question is how can I do that at API level? I'm assuming that involves creating vCenter connection using vSphere API (I'm familiar with this part), find the associated NSX manager (not sure how to do that in vSphere API), then login NSX API (I know how to do this using NSX API with host/user/password, but don't know how to achieve it using a vCenter connection, sounds like some kind of SSO between vCenter and plugin), and finally do NSX operations (I'm familiar with this part).

Appreciate your help on this. Thanks.
